Nine DCI Members Receive Distinguished Professorships

Nine Duke Cancer Institute (DCI) members have received distinguished professorships from Duke University this year. All professorships will be recognized in a ceremony at the Washington Duke Inn on May 18.

Distinguished professorships honor faculty who are well-established members of the Duke academic community and have also achieved distinction as creative scholars in their field or in their ability to transcend disciplines.

The DCI members who earned distinguished professorships in 2026 are:

  • Andrew John Armstrong, MD, George Barth Geller Distinguished Professor for Research in Cancer
  • Mustafa Shadi Rafaat Bashir MD, James & Alice Chen Distinguished Professor in Radiology
  • Nicholas Scott Heaton, PhD, Minnie Geller Distinguished Professor of Research in Genetics
  • Sven Eric Jordt, PhD, Distinguished Professor of Anesthesiology
  • Christopher Vincent Nicchitta, PhD, James B. Duke Distinguished Professor of Cell Biology
  • Trudy G. Oliver, PhD, George Barth Geller Distinguished Professor for Research in Pharmacology
  • Mari L. Shinohara, PhD, Alter Geller Distinguished Professor for Research in Immunology
  • Debra Lynn Silver, PhD, Duke School of Medicine Distinguished Professor in Neuroscience
  • G. Greg Wang, PhD, James B. Duke Distinguished Professor of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology
